Second generation of Ultra-Caps now up to 5000 farads per cell
Bonding of the active carbon material to the terminals and can was optimized for greater modularity of design. The new UltraCaps feature higher energy and power density, lower equivalent series resistance (ESR) and minimum losses. They are designed for a rated voltage of 2.5V and can withstand a peak of 2.8V. Their operating temperature range extends from -35 to +70°C. The flagship of the new generation is a cell optimized for high energy density. It is rated at 5000 F/2.5V and delivers the highest capacitance of any single cell on the market. Weighing only 850 g, this new UltraCap is distinguished by a power density of 7.4kW/kg, energy density of 5.1Wh/kg and ESR of 250µ. It can be charged and discharged with currents up to 500A. A further innovation is a single cell rated at 200F/2.5V and designed for maximum power density. Weighing only 55 g, it features a power density of 16kW/kg, energy density of 3.2Wh/kg and ESR of only2 m. It can be charged and discharged with up to 50 A. This 200 F UltraCap will also be available in a single-cell version. Further cells with capacitances of 600, 1200, 2700 and 3600F for a rated voltage of 2.5V will follow. The new UltraCap cells and modules will be found in industrial electronics, automotive electronics and rail traction.
